Overview
This one-day workshop introduces participants to submitting parallel computing jobs with MATLAB on CINECA’s pre-exascale HPC cluster, Leonardo. Participants will learn how to solve compute- and data-intensive problems using Leonardo’s multicore processors and GPUs. Through hands-on exercises, they will gain practical experience accessing Leonardo, configuring and submitting MATLAB jobs, and retrieving results from MATLAB. By working through common scenarios for parallelizing MATLAB algorithms, participants will develop a solid understanding of parallel computing with MATLAB on HPC clusters and learn useful best practices.

Participants who currently use, or plan to use, CINECA HPC clusters for their research are encouraged to bring examples of their code for consultation with MathWorks experts.
Target audience:
This course is intended for university students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and scientists working in scientific domains. Anyone who meets the prerequisites is welcome to apply.
Prerequisites
• University-level education, or higher, in a scientific domain
• Participants are required to complete the free Parallel Computing Onramp online course. Upload your course certificate of completion in the registration form (How do I get my certificate?)
• Affiliation with at least one Italian institute
• Good knowledge of English
• Participants are also encouraged to complete the free MATLAB Onramp online course.
Requirements
• Participants must bring their own laptop (see system requirements) with the following software installed:
o One of the following MATLAB releases: R2025a, or R2025b
o Parallel Computing Toolbox
o Deep Learning Toolbox
About the presenter
Alessio Conte is an Education Customer Success Engineer at MathWorks with over six years of experience supporting academics and researchers across Italy and EMEA, with a strong focus on HPC and parallel computing applications. He holds a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Sapienza University of Rome.
